Gypsy Caravan Tribal Beginners with Cat

Monday 6.45pm - 7.45pm

A fun class to start your journey in Gypsy Caravan Tribal Bellydance!

This is a class that will bring you connection with yourself and other women in our beautiful circle. It’s for women of all dance levels, including complete beginners or those with experience wanting to learn the GC way. This beginners class teaches the diverse vocabulary of moves that GCTB has on offer. It’s a modern dance and our repertoire is inspired by many cultures including those from the middle east, India, Spain, and Africa, to name a few. We use props, including skirts, baskets, swords, and fans, and enjoy zilling and drumming together.

The class has a theme each month and the moves are broken down and practised to assist getting them into your body. This will enable you to dance together with your dance sisters in an improvised way in duets, triplets, choruses, and circles. The connection we have in GCTB is from a lead and follow format, and the wonderful and fun formations we can create together on the dance floor. This class will warm you up, stretch you out, and get you smiling as you learn together with a beautiful group of women. It’ll evoke your inner goddess and let her shine through in dance.

Props and Toys and Egyptian Bellydance with Princess Fee

WEDNESDAY 6.15 – 7.15pm

This is a fun class aimed at beyond-beginners to intermediate dancers with some knowledge of middle eastern dance technique.

This is a technique+choreography class, which involves a decent warm-up and drill component to loosen up the body and prepare for dance, as well as drill some common bellydance steps to practice and refine your muscle memory. We also use zills/finger cymbals/sagaat to learn and practice some of the common Arabic Rhythms you will find in the music we use to help train your ear as well as your hips. Then we move into the choreography section, where you will learn a particular dance to a particular song, sometimes using some of the range of bellydance props and toys, such as veils, canes, candles, zills, thobes, fans and more!

This class has a performance group (The Sayyida Troupe) who maintains a repertoire of the dances we learn in this class and performs at the Free Spirit events as well as community performance opportunities. All students are welcome to perform, but it is by no means compulsory if you are just looking for a fun workout! The best time to join this class is at the start of a term.

Watch Princess Fee's Event Page on Facebook for the date of next term. Wear comfy clothing you can move freely (and feel fabulous!) in, coin belts, fringe belts and hip scarves are encouraged and all the props and toys are available for loan.

More about Princess Fee

Classes are $15 casually or a discounted rate per term.

Zyama Improvisation with Princess Fee

WEDNESDAY 7.30 – 8.30pm

This is a more challenging class aimed at intermediate dancers. The Zyama Format is a slower, smoother, slinkier and more muscularly demanding dance form, based on the traditional movements of bellydance, enhanced by techniques from the newer fusion styles emerging and can be danced to any musical style.

This class teaches you a vocabulary of movements from one of the Goddess Series which is taught as a cue-and-response dance model, so the leader cues a particular move and the group then follow with the set pattern of that combination. Movements are grouped into a Goddess Series (8 moves per Goddess) and we study a different Goddess each term. As a slower dance style, the dancer can’t rely on momentum and must engage all their muscular armoury to fully engage in each move, so is perfect for those wanting to strengthen their core muscles or those who find fast or higher impact styles uncomfortable.

Interested students from this class perform as the BellySlink Troupe at Free Spirit and community events – but this is strictly optional. We also boast the most comfortable costumes of the Bellydance Lexicon.

The best time to start this class is at the start of term, contact Princess Fee for the date of next term. Wear comfy clothes with something that shows your hip line, no noisy coin belts please.

More about Princess Fee

Classes are $15 casually or $120 for a 10-week term.
